This lemon drink is considered the national drink of Italy. It is great as an after-dinner drink. The taste is a combination of sour and sweet. It has a beautiful yellow colour. This is the traditional recipe how Rosalba Valente makes it back in Bella Italia.
1 liter of pure alcohol
700 grams of water
500 grams of sugar
8-10 yellow lemons (it depends on the size)
Wash and dry the lemons. Carefully zest the lemons with a zester or vegetable peeler so there is no white pith on the peel. Use only the outer part of the rind. The pith, the white part underneath the rind, is too bitter and would spoil your limoncello.
In a large bowl pour pure alcohol. Add the lemon zest as it is zested and cover the bowl. Let sit at room temperature for at least 10 days in a cool and dark place. The longer the mixture rests, the better the end taste will be.
After this time, boil the water with the sugar until the sugar is completely melted, turn off the heat and leave to cool. Add cooled sugar mixture to the alcohol.
Strain the Limoncello (discarding the lemon zest). Pour strained Limoncello in bottles.
Store your bottles of Limoncello in the freezer until ready to serve. You can keep the liqueur in the freezer and it will not become ice.
Italian Spritz cocktail
Original Spritz cocktail
This cocktail is very popular in Italy. The colour is bright orange, so we Dutchies should also love this. Italians drink it a lot of times during their aperitivo and it’s not very strong.
⅓ Prosecco or another sparkling white wine (not aromatic or sweet)
⅓ Tonic (Schweppes)
Spritz cocktail Eduard style (AEGEE-Sienna)
Do you want your spritz a little less Tonic and a little bit more alcoholic? Eduard revealed to us his own secret recipe how his family makes it for hundreds of years.
2/6 Aperol or another sparkling white wine (not aromatic or sweet)
1/6 Tonic (Schweppes)
Just put all the ingredients in a glass or something different from which you can drink and stir all these ingredients to make it a nice mix.
What if you want to make a lot but don’t have the proper stuff and enough time to make separate glasses? Well, you can just use a pan or bucket and serving spoon.
Storing Spritz cocktail:
This is not necessary since your friends will love the cocktail so it will be gone the same night
